I am unsure of how to describe this year's fete. Class 9 has the responsibility of volunteering in the various stalls. There is a system of dedicating songs on Fete Day. Me and my friends had talked to the teacher in-charge and got spots there. We arrived at school an hour before the event. We had to attach some papers telling about the rates of dedications and we also had to bring down tables all the way from the top floor to the ground floor. My friends Manya and Pragati who insisted on helping me nearly fractured my shoulder..! The strongest among us, Urja, carried one on her own. The fete was to be declared open with the lighting of the Ceremonial Lamp. Not many people witnessed the opening. Sambhav Choudhury, another friend of mine, gave a speech on Children's Day which ended like this- 'So Loyola, LETS ROCK!'. That got a lot of cheers. When our shift started we had no work to do. At first we worked quite inefficiently but after the first few dedications we worked like a well oiled machine. One after the other we collected slips and announced dedications. It was fun. At 10:40 we were relieved of our duties as the band had to perform. We headed outside and decided to eat. Manya and Sambhav had a Gupchup competition where Sambhav won easily. This was followed by the Egg Pakoda competition between Urja and Sambhav which was hilarious. Urja almost vomited and both were dying for water. We still don't know who won it. We sat in the shade as my friends wanted to make sure that I wont have a migraine. At the end of the band's performance we went back to the stage where we were unexpectedly asked to help in the second shift. The crowd was much larger than what we dealt with in the first half. A huge crowd was dancing near the stage and it was raining dedications. We had a hectic time dealing with people and the dedications. We had to group all the same dedications so that they could be finished off together. And we had a huge number of slips to group. People came complaining that their song wasn't played and we had nothing to say except a few reassuring words. However, it was great fun. Urja jumped into the crowd with her microphone and kept the crowd going as she danced there like a nut. As the fete approached its end I was feeling a bit sick due to the loud noise and the sun's heat. Manya was forced to go into the crowd and dance. But being the lovely friend she is, she said that she wont leave me. Even though I told her not to worry as I would be fine, she didn't leave my side. And so I told her that I will go into the crowd. Honestly, I don't regret it. We danced a lot! Gangnam Style was the most played song. The fun that we had cant be put into words. As the last few minutes approached we went back up on the stage, where we were working, and collected our stuff. After a countdown from 3, the fete was over. Only then did I realise how tired I was. I was dying of thirst. We (me, Manya, Uj and Pragati) took some group photos with our friends- Akankshya, Ekta, Ananya, Pratik, Lalit, Sayan, Shiv and Anirban. Finally, my dad arrived and I left for home with some great memories. The hangover hasn't passed yet. The work, music, dance, food and most importantly......my friends made this fete really special, unforgettable and the best one I've ever had!
