Chemistry Practicals!

One of the few positives of class 9 is practicals. The most promising practical is definitely chemistry. Last Wednesday 9-A had its first chemistry practical. The experiment was to make ammonia and perform certain confirmatory tests on the gas. As we entered the lab I could feel the collective sense of anxiety and excitement in my class mates. All of us were scared of hurting ourselves or breaking test tubes. Our teacher gave us a demo. He was so quick in his experiment that I couldn't realise when it finished. Then it was our turn. We were considerably frightened by that time. As soon as we were asked to go to our individual work stations, there was complete chaos. Someone would go around looking for sodium hydroxide while someone would search for Hydrochloric acid. Then there were others whose experiment went bad. Many told me that their solution simply burst out of the test tube. My experiment went well and my fear about chemistry practicals vanished. I realised that if I am cautious enough, there is going to be no trouble whatsoever. Tomorrow is my next practical where I think we will be working on Hydrogen Chloride gas. I hope that it goes even better than my previous one. The only problem is that my Bunsen burner wasn't working last class. I hope its been sorted out by now.
