So today was the much awaited semi-final between India and Australia. Sadly, India lost. And what did I do? Denial and crying were just a part of it. It took me hours to accept the defeat and actually get some closure. Crazy, huh? You bet.
In my country, being cricket crazy is a pretty normal thing. Yet somehow, it is too hard for people to accept the fact that a girl can be a fan. A genuine admirer of the game. And today, when my uncle heard of my reaction to the defeat, he said that it was heart warming to see the passion I have for the game. The gist of everything he said was that I am breaking a stereotype here. And that got me thinking. We are the ones who've created this divide in the first place. Of course, certain choices of males and females do vary and they are intrinsic. What I don't get though is why is it so hard to accept that a girl can be an avid cricket follower or a guy can cook? We say people are breaking the stereotype. What we fail to realise is that we created it in the first place. I am not trying to give a sermon on sexist ideologies or feminism here. Neither is this about equality of any sort. This was just a simple thought that came to my mind.
